Gabriel attended Point Pleasant High School in Point Pleasant, NJ and graduated from Arizona State University in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business with an emphasis in Marketing.  He grew up and is still at C & L Sweeping Service in Jackson, NJ as a second generation of street sweepers and began working there full time in 1988.

As a sale and marketing person coming from a medical background with Arrow International, Gabe built C&L sweeping and Pavement Maintenance from $75,000 $7,800,000 annual sales in sweeper rebuilding, municipal sweeping, construction sweeping and private community sweeping, Parking lot and deck sweeping along with Pavement repair, in addition, to seal coating, crack filling, striping, etc.

Gabe was President of the National Contract Sweeper Association (NCSA) 1993-1994.   NCSA reorganized in 2000 and became the North American Power Sweeping Association (NAPSA). Gabe is a founding member and sat on the board from 1990 to 2018. http://www.powersweeping.org/about-napsa/

Gabe has been a guest speaker at the Pavement Maintenance Expo’s annual conventions regarding private street sweeping and has spoken at the best practices round tables for multiple years.  He is regularly quoted in sweeping trade journals and has conducted numerous seminars for other sweeping company owners.

Gabe was a founder and 20-year member (1999-2019) of NAPSA’s Certification committee which oversaw the sweeping industries peer-reviewed sweeping company certification project. http://www.powersweeping.org/about-napsa/certification/ In 2004 C & L Sweeper Service became the first sweeping contractor in New Jersey to become NAPSA Certified.  (Note: in 2020 NAPSA removed the peer-review requirement for certification)

In 2018 NAPSA completed and launched a national Certified Sweeper Operator school (CSO).  The school provides an online training program consisting of 20+ modules. To achieve “certification,” operators must complete the course, pass an oral exam, and complete 1,000 hours of accident/injury free sweeper operation. Gabe was a contributor, beta tester, and the first person in New Jersey to achieve CSO status.  http://www.sweeperschool.com

In 2011 the Nationwide Service Alliance known as 1-800-Sweeper was formed from 21 of the top sweeping companies in the nation. http://www.1800sweeper.com/about-us    Membership is currently 54 companies representing over 1,500 pieces of equipment and over 150,000,000 in sales.

C & L  Sweeper Service, founded in 1971 and will be celebrating it’s 50 years in business in 2021, focuses exclusively on sweeping and pavement maintenance.

Other Odd info:

Gabe grew up in the sweeping business before going away to college and then pursued a medical sales career in Chicago IL before returning to the sweeping industry in NJ.  He has a tremendous amount of hours of operator experience in each of the major sweeper types. Though time seldom allows, Gabe still gets his hands dirty in the shop providing insight to optimize sweeper performance.

Each of the last eight years, Gabe has been a speaker at the National Pavement Expo (Sweeper Convention), training other sweeping company owners.  Topics include: Third-Party Issues, Working with Property Managers, Sweeper Insurance Concepts, Trip & Fall Liabilities, and Marketing.
